Listening to Ghosts (Laurel and Her Sister)

"Listening to Ghosts (Laurel and Her Sister)"

Sometimes Laurel needs to escape. Sometimes she’ll be standing behind her counter at work, checking baggage and pleasantly asking the required security questions, when she’ll feel the need to jump over the counter and run as fast as she can in any direction. Sometimes when she gets like that, the ghost of her sister will walk up behind the customer and start giving her advice. "Don’t worry so much over finding things," ghost-Ingrid will say over someone’s shoulder. "Whatever you’re going to need will find its way to you when you’re ready for it."

The other day while Laurel was trying to update the boarding pass for the sweet Salvadoran woman who flies back home every few months to visit her sisters, she looked up and Ms. Garcia-Ruiz had turned into Ingrid, who told her "Don’t waste your time on people who claim to be romantic but treat you the opposite." But then when she blinked again, Ms. Garcia-Ruiz was back, asking about her connecting flight in Charlotte.
