"Four Blocks From the Tracks (Rockingham County Ellen)"
It was late last night when she found this motel. Yeah, she appreciates a moderate level of rundownness, but this place felt a little over the limit. Still, after driving seven hours, it seemed like a better option than driving even farther to end up at a worse option?
But as soon as Ellen got her suitcase inside and her laptop open, she knew she'd made the right call. She felt it before she heard it: the low level ground-shaking of a train. And just the right distance away too. You don't want the whole motel rattling off its foundation, but that deep in her bones rumbling brings a warm comfort. Something's on its way. It's heavy and maybe awkward, but something somebody needs is headed for where it needs to go.
