Campbell and You, South of Salvo

"Campbell and You, South of Salvo"

Let me tell you about why I stopped here. A week or two ago I had a talk with my mom, who let on that when she was 21, she went on a trip to this same beach with a much older man. She talked about pulling off the road, a certain distance south of Salvo, maybe this exact spot? She was telling me all this, looking off in the distance, saying things about kisses and swimsuits and gifts and expectations, almost under her breath. She mentioned the remnants of an old shipwreck, almost washed away then, presumably gone now. I have no idea why she chose to tell me any of this.

I said "I never even knew you liked the beach?". Without looking at me or even thinking, she replied "well, maybe that’s why I don’t".

The things you learn about a person.

You and me, we wake up most every morning, dreaming of being here and feeling that cold wind in our faces.
